Emily completes BGAJ John Deere Journalism Training Award 5 Oct 2026

In July, Kendalls Account and Digital Media Manager, Emily, attended the British Guild of Agricultural Journalists’ John Deere Journalism Training Award at John Deere’s UK and Ireland headquarters at Langar, Nottinghamshire.

The BGAJ’s John Deere Training Course has been running for more than 30 years, helping journalists, public relations professionals and marketers develop their skills and knowledge of agricultural journalism.

Led by journalist and lecturer David Mascord, alongside experienced guest speakers from across the agricultural media, the course combined practical exercises with insight into working within the industry.

Across the course, Emily took part in writing exercises, interview training, group work and a press conference scenario, with opportunities to put journalism skills into practice and receive feedback. The programme also provided an opportunity to learn more about agricultural machinery and John Deere, including getting behind the wheel of a tractor.

For Emily, who works across social media, PR and content for Kendalls’ agricultural and rural clients, the course provided valuable experience to build on the journalism and communications skills used in her day-to-day role.

It was also a great opportunity to meet other early-career journalists and communications professionals working across the agricultural sector and build new industry connections.

Applications for the 2027 BGAJ John Deere Journalism Training Award are expected to open in January, so keep an eye on the BGAJ website and social channels for further details.
